Meredith spent the past two years at Werribee, playing 24 games.
“I just want to get the enjoyment in footy again, I think last year was a bit flat around the joint,” he said.
“It’s been good training at ‘Lavi’ pre-Christmas, it’s been unreal.”
The 24-year old played four VFL Development League games last year after being squeezed out by North Melbourne AFL players, such as Sam Durdin, while he also played two ‘guest’ games at Lavington.
Meredith left the Panthers after a breakout best and fairest-winning 2015 with realistic hopes of reaching the highest level.
North, Essendon and Greater Western Sydney spoke to him after his first year, where he was rated in the top 25 VFL players in line for the AFL, but he had less interest after 2017.
“You never say never, but mature age, it gets so hard, what’s the difference between picking up an 18-year old and develop him as opposed to a 24-year old?,” he said.
The 194cm Meredith made his name as a defender, opposing classy Western Bulldogs’ premiership player Jake Stringer and Collingwood’s 211cm Mason Cox.
“My main game is standing off and using my athletic ability and jumping at it,” he said.
“But he was still beating me by a metre in the air.
“In the end, before he could jump, I was knocking him off the ball.”
But the likeable Meredith also played in attack and Lavington first-year coach Simon Curtis says he certainly won’t be pigeon-holed in one position.
“I think he’s extremely versatile, he’d be a great addition to our back six, but I can see he’d be used all over the ground,” he said.
